Overview

Our client is a bus ticket aggregation company that allows its customers to compare prices and reserve the bus trip suiting their preferences in Africa. For expansion purposes, the startup needed to hire 45 sales reps that will offer the startup’s services to the leads and help them to make good choices.
The suitable candidates should have experience as Sales Representatives with other ticket aggregators that deal with any means of transportation. In addition to strong interpersonal skills that include communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Rise to the Challenge

Numerous challenges accompanied this project, and we had a challenge at every stage. The first the challenge we dealt with, at the moment of assigning this project, was the degree of urgency of the project had, hiring a large number of suitable candidates needed to be found within a short period. Our Recruitment Specialists and Consultants are always hard workers, so it was an opportunity to prove themselves to our clients and go beyond the desired results.

Action

Our sourcing process included many local job boards, portals, and online communities that provided us with the perfect pool of candidates in 16 different African countries, the list encompassed: Kenya, Congo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Uganda, Angola, Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Ethiopia, South Africa, Cameroon, Congo DR, Ghana, and Zimbabwe.
The second challenge we faced was that most of the candidates are natively French speakers, not English, this encouraged us to intensify our range of research to include fluent English speakers, our good searching techniques and strategies made this challenge easier to overcome.

Methodology

The third challenge was an external factor that appeared out of the blue. It’s related to the infrastructure of Africa. Most of the areas, within our range of search, are developing countries that have internet connections that are still not strong enough. Therefore, our team used international phone calls to communicate with the candidate, as well as video calls for better monitoring of the candidate’s interactions.

Project Deliverables

After delivering our shortlist, now, it’s time to start the negotiation process. The challenge here was the limited package of remuneration the client had offered, which was not very satisfying in some African markets due to the rising inflation rates. However, with our team’s resourcefulness and excellent awareness of their candidates’ personalities, most of the candidates’ concerns were properly managed.
